Essential Oil Tuesday – Vapor Shower Discs

Cold season is coming!!! Between kids going back to school and the cooler weather, people tend to catch those winter colds.

Treating those beginning stages of colds is crucial to nip them before then become a full-fledged disaster in your household.

Essential Oil Tues day on www.KrisandLarry.com-Vapor Shower Discs for cold seasonAs a child, I remember my mom buying the “Vic’s Shower Discs” and throwing them in the bottom of hot steamy showers to let all of the vapor smells steam up and fill the bathroom to relieve cold symptoms and help breathe better. My kids and I make up our own with essential oils and baking soda. These are the perfect “gift” for someone who is feeling a little down and out.

15 drops of essential oils to 1 cup baking soda ratio. We use Young Living Essential Oils for our entire household. For more information visit www.youngliving.com/krismazy

You will need baking soda, essential oils (we use Eucalyptus, Lavender and Rosemary or simply just Eucalyptus), water (enough to make a gooey thick putty-like paste), cupcake tin and paper cupcake liners OR a silicon baking tray that is divided into little squares.

Mix together all ingredients in a glass bowl and dish out evenly in the cupcake liners or silicon brownie pan.  Let sit over night to dry.

There is nothing like the smell of fresh bread

Making White Bread in the Bread Maker - www.krisandlarry.comEven when you are having a rough day, there is just something about the smell of fresh baking bread!!!

This is a recipe that I use often in my bread machine when I don’t want to use my pre-rising dough and want some sandwich bread for the kids

(I have a big bucket in my spare fridge with 4 loaves of artisan dough that I make once a week or so. It has a bit of a “sour” taste to it and we make Boule bread from it).

Fluffy White Sandwich Bread (makes 1 loaf)

  • 1 Tablespoon yeast
  • 1- 1/4 cups warm water
  • 1 Tablespoon sugar
  • 1 Tablespoon olive oil (can substitute other oil – melted coconut oil works great too or butter)
  • 3 cups white flour
  • 1 Tablespoon vital wheat gluten
  • 1-1/2 t salt (I normally omit the salt because I can’t eat white salt and don’t normally stand and grind my pink salt into dishes when I am in a hurry)

Add all ingredients in your breadmaker and turn on. SIMPLE! (you can add 1 cup of grated cheddar cheese and one chopped up jalapeno for a spicy alternative.)

Essential Oil Tuesday – Wood Furniture Polish

Wood Furniture Polish - www.krisandlarry.comI love that I can use more natural home cleaning items in my home. That is so important with this many munchkins around. I want to use safe cleaners and other items around them and make sure that we are chemical-free.

Mix together

  • 1 tablespoon vinegar,
  • 1 tablespoon coconut oil(melted)
  • 3 drops of Citrus Blend, lemon, orange or tangerine essential oil. (I prefer the citrus blend).

Always mix in a GLASS Bowl!

On a microfiber cloth (or in our case, cloth diaper), drop several drops of cleaner as needed. Wipe wood furniture with cloth.
