On a homestead, nothing should go to waste. Every vegetable, fruit, and herb has more uses than you might think. By learning to use every part of your harvest, you not only save money but also honor the effort it took to grow your food. Here at KrisandLarry, We are getting ready for colder weather. We have 2 cords of wood cut (Not stacked yet, but cut and piled) We are a new pressure canner to start filling our pantry with wonder homemade soups and meat.
How do you get the MOST out of your garden. Here are a few ideas for you
Carrot tops → pesto, soups, or compost
Broccoli stems → peel and stir-fry or shred for slaw
Onion skins → broth base or natural dye
Zucchini blossoms → stuffed and fried
Herb stems → infused vinegars and oils
Corn cobs → broth or corn cob jelly
Apple peels → cider vinegar or jelly
Beet greens → sautéed like spinach
Squash seeds → roasted snacks
Cucumber peels → pickling spice or chicken treat
